Raise the Event Standard through UNs Sustainable Development Goals

Research has shown 84% of delegates are more engaged with a program featuring CSR aspects. With the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, it is now easier localize areas in need of development and creates CSR events that inspire people through shared experiences.

Raise the Event Standard through UNs Sustainable Development Goals

Event planning is more than organizing buses, hotels and gala parties

Events, meetings, conferences, and incentives are meant to be shared experiences. In recent years, we have seen a surge in the request for more inspiring experiences and less guided tours, goodie bags and museum visits. We want more shared experiences that inspire us.

No other experience is as inspiring, powerful and universal as those focused on giving back. We should as event planners inspire to heighten the standard of our events through the integration of CSR related activities.

Organizing CSR activities can be difficult without the right knowledge or network. Therefore, it is beneficial to get in touch with your preferred local DMC and discuss how one or more of the UN’s 17 goals can be implemented as a shared experience between the participants.

Stop Getting – Start Giving

We are as event planners have always been looking to get the best of each destination. It is time we start to give back to the destination and local communities. A properly planned CSR program can also extend the life of an event. An inspirational CSR activity organized by Hadler DMC Scandinavia inspired an international company to reapply the format in their future incentives around the world, thereby helping other local communities and creating a powerful shared experience among new and returning incentive earners.

First Step – Identify

Start by identifying the client’s charitable causes and how they directly can become a part of the solution. Is the client:

  • A major retailer? Great! Organize a ‘Basic Needs Kit’ with goods from the brand store and distribute it to local families affected by a disaster.
  • A sneaker brand? Arrange a photoshoot day with children from a troubled background or home, and let them keep the brand-new shoes and photos as a happy memory.
  • An IT company? Have them do something totally different than their daily routine and freshen up the interior of a local shelter.

With the right creative mind, and a proper network of key contacts, the possibilities are endless.

Generosity is inspirational and contagious. It is a powerful and universal experience that transcends cultures and borders. Give not because you should; but because you can!
